Summary

ChemCon The Americas 2014 took place in Chicago, the USA from October 27th to 31st. More than 190 experts from 25 countries representing more than 110 companies, authorities and associations have attended the conference and contributed to the exchange of experiences and discussion about regulatory affairs around the globe.

After the in-depth pre-conference seminars, on “Global Approach to New Chemicals” and “Practical Implementation of GHS” a variety of aspects of international chemical control legislation around the globe was discussed during the conferences sessions. Hands on topics related to North American, Brazilian and Mexican regulations as well as European REACH Authorisation procedures, the Chinese regulations and the Taiwanese amendments were of high relevance to the audience. Up-to-date information on current and emerging chemical control legislation in the Asia-Pacific (e.g. China, India, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, Australia and New-Zealand), The Americas (e.g. USA, Canada, Mexico and Brazil), and Europe (eg EU, Russia and Turkey) were highlighted and discussed. As always practical advice and lessons learned by industry were well received, since they show how to act within the legal frameworks set.

Many countries from The Americas, Europe and the Asia Pacific were spotlighted in detail and furthermore there was a focus on topics like GHS, endocrine disruptors, nanomaterials, biocides, green chemistry and biobased economy. Also the potential impact of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) was discussed.
