Summary

ChemCon Asia 2013 took place in Seoul, South Korea from September 9th - 13th. Over 320 experts from 31 countries representing more than 160 companies, authorities and associations have attended the conference and contributed to the exchange of experiences and discussion about regulatory affairs around the globe.

After the in-depth pre-conference seminars, on Korea and Global Survey of Regulated Lists of Chemicals, a variety of aspects of international chemical control legislation around the globe was discussed during the conferences sessions. Hands on topics related to Chinese, Japanese and Indonesian regulations as well as European REACH procedures and expected Unites States updates were of high relevance to the audience. Up-to-date information on current and emerging chemical control legislation in the Asia-Pacific (e.g. India, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Australia and New-Zealand), The Americas (e.g. USA, Canada, Mexico and Brazil), and Europe (eg EU, Russia and Turkey) were highlighted and discussed. As always practical advice and lessons learned by industry were well received, since they show how to act within the legal frameworks set.

Many countries from Asia Pacific, the Americas, and Europe were spotlighted in detail and furthermore there was a focus on topics like GHS, nanomaterials, pesticides, biocides, cosmetics, food contact and endocrine disruptors as well as potential approaches for a more sustainable future of the chemical industry. Also emergency prevention and response practices, downstream user requirements and experiences were shared.
