Summary

ChemCon Europe 2010 took place in Prague, Czech Republic from March 1st - 5th. Almost 300 delegates from 33 countries representing more than 190 companies, authorities and associations have attended the conference and contributed to the exchange of experiences and discussion about regulatory affairs around the globe.

After the in-depth pre-conference seminars on TSCA-reform and Exposure Scenarios the welcome reception was dedicated to the first global chemical leasing awards ceremony an initiative of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Water and Environmental Management and the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). On Tuesday CEFIC director general Mr Hubert Mandery officially opened the conference after which the delegates started their journey around the world of chemical control legislation and trade aspects with a REACH update from ECHA and Industry and an overview on the implementation of GHS. Besides these topics, other aspects of international chemical control around the globe were discussed in the conference sessions and Q&A’s covering current and emerging legislation on reporting and testing of new chemicals, chemical inventories, evaluation of existing chemicals, classification and labelling, risk management, hazard communication and product registration.

Many countries from Europe, Asia Pacific and the Americas were spotlighted in detail and quite a number of horizontal topics with a global or regional relevance were covered, e.g. REACH, GHS, nanotechnology, etc.
