Summary

ChemCon Europe 2012 took place in Madrid, Spain from March 5th – 9th. 340 delegates from 30 countries representing more than 220 companies, authorities and associations have attended the conference and contributed to the exchange of experiences and discussion about regulatory affairs around the globe.

After the in-depth pre-conference seminars on EU Risk assessment and China a variety of aspects of international chemical control legislation around the globe was discussed during the conferences sessions. Hands on topics related to Japanese CSCL, European REACH procedures, the Korea-REACH implementation and the global chemical notification systems were of high relevance to the audience. Up-to-date information on current and emerging chemical control legislation in the Asia-Pacific (eg India, Taiwan, Australia and New-Zealand), The Americas (e.g. USA, Canada, Argentina and Brazil), and Europe (eg EU, Russia and Turkey) were highlighted and discussed. As always practical advice and lessons learned by industry were well received, since they show how to act within the legal frameworks set.

Many countries from Europe, Asia Pacific and the Americas were spotlighted in detail and furthermore there was a focus on topics like GHS, nanomaterials, biocides, cosmetics and food contact as well as potential approaches for a more sustainable future of the chemical industry and downstream user requirements and experiences.
